GD Magazine

Issue #1, October 1. 2015

Fellow Gamers,

We proudly present to you our very own Magazine. In this first issue, we will be looking back on the Fashion Show, which took place last Sunday! We will also feature an interview with the newly crowned Fashion King and his thoughts on the Show, the contestants, and his gaming life.

  • Greetings everyone, and welcome to the special post-show interview with the newly crowned Fashion King Zakky. Hello Zakky!
  • Hello Reluctance! Thank you for having me.
  • Well, let's get right down to it. How does it feel to be the new Fashion King?
  • I feel special. For once, I feel appreciated by more than just my 6 cats.
  • Any changes to your everyday life?
  • My life is still the same. Tho, I now have a new 'trophy' on the wall.
  • We asked this question at the show but tell our readers once more: What made you choose this particular outfit?
  • Well, our guild was having a downtime in raiding. There wasn't much to do when you log in, so I decided to farm all kinds of transmog sets. Normally I don't do a lot of RDF but when an event like Brewfest comes around, I start farming tokens. That gets me thinking on what I should actually use them. I didn't have a very clear idea until just 30 minutes before the Fashion Show.
  • Let me remind the readers that you were, in fact, a last-minute entry. It's impressive, since you didn't have much time to prepare before we started.
  • Oh, yeah. I rushed to sign up and during that period I was scrambling my bank for my set. I had a completely different idea of what to bring when I saw some items lying around. In the spur of the moment, I put them on and decided: That's it! I then rushed to the coliseum and... well... the rest is history.
  • And what did you think of the competition? Any costumes that impressed or disappointed you?
  • There were a lot of good and original sets but also some generic and boring ones. People on retail often used those, so they were common.
  • Well, any set in particular that caught your eye?
  • Manduin's set did. It wasn't an actual set but rather different items pieced together from various stages of WoW. I believed that judges would rate actual sets lower than good combinations.
  • What do you think about the runner-ups Katsuya and Goldmoon?
  • Katsuya was another who surprised me. In the coliseum, I was looking around and saw a lot of players who either had their raiding gear or were naked. Thought it was a visual bug. He equipped his set once we got ported to Hyjal. His set was really matching and it took a long time to farm, if I recall correctly. And Goldmoon, well, I didn't expect him to win so it surprised me that he got 3rd place. But his set was also decent.
  • Well, let me tell you, it was really difficult for us to chose the Top 3 since there were a lot of close calls between the different sets and presentations. Well, let's talk a bit about your set, in particular. What does it represent?
  • Being a paladin at it's core. A crusader, if you will. Also, the Alliance insignia, used by the old Alliance. I want to show everyone, that despite being a Blood Elf, my character has not forgotten it's past and holds on to it with firm hands.
  • And how did you feel about the Fashion Show, in general?
  • I definitely liked it, despite the waiting time. It was people's quirky and silly remarks that made it so much fun. Also, watching Axujen learn to fly!
  • Ah, yes, Axujen...
  • To be honest, at the end I didn't even care if I would win or lose. I just wanted to have fun watching people show-off.
  • That's nice to hear. There will be a second Fashion Show in the future and your presence is expected... if you want to retain your title, that is.
  • Of course! I am planning to farm up a completely different set next time around.
  • Ok, let's change the subject a bit. How long have you been playing on Gamer-District?
  • Since 8. Februar, 2013. So that would make it over 2 years now. I tried playing before but couldn't manage to hit level 80. Had no friends or known associates here. Nothing to strive for. But once I moved to <Illusion>, we settled down and started having fun
  • After spending over 2 years playing here what do you think about Gamer-District?
  • Probably the best server. No character/instance bugs, very few glitches overall, and those are not even game-changing. The quests are what really struck me, though. Almost all of them are perfectly scripted. I've seen vanilla quests that work here, which don't on so many other servers. That is really impressive.
  • We, as the Staff, do our best to provide top-quality gaming experience to our players on a daily basis. That includes vanilla quests.
  • And most of all, everything WoTLK-orientated works perfectly. Before Gamer-District, I used to play on some other servers, with lots of bugs and fewer players. I felt like being with my family. It was fun, at first. But then... no one new to meet. And all of the servers ended up shutting down due to low population. I like the fact, that when I achieve something here, everyone can see it (as with this last Fashion Show). Also, there are a lot of big guilds here. <Illusion> was falling apart when I met <Kudos>, where I am today. The mere fact, that after 2 years I am still here, speaks for itself.
  • So you were finally able to make a lasting connection here?
  • Indeed.
  • Well, we are nearing the end of our interview but I have a few more questions to ask you.
  • Certainly.
  • We will be launching our Weekly GD Magazine soon. Do you have any ideas about future topics?
  • My ideas are as good as your. Not sure what to add. Tho, I would very much like to see the "ScreenShot of the Week" event return. It would make a great page in the Magazine.
  • We will do our best. One final question: What are your future plans from here on out?
  • Keep raiding with my guild and down Lich King 25 heroic. Then I will probably end up quitting WoW!
  • Nooo!!!
  • WoTLK is a great expansion, don't get me wrong. But there is only so much it can offer. Well, I guess there is gearing my alts with 25 heroic gear. That could take time...
  • Or perhaps getting over 9000 achievement points?
  • That too. I try not to plan that far ahead of time.
  • Sadly, our time has come to an end. Thank you for your time in answering these questions.
  • Thank you too!
  • Well then, until next time!

Stay tuned for the next issue of the Magazine!

GD Magazine

Issue #2, October 17. 2015

Fellow Gamers,

We are back! This time we interviewed 2 old GD players and got their thought on paper. So let's check it out:

(Duck, Libre)

  • Greetings and welcome to our GD Magazine. Today we have 2 of the oldest players on GD - Duck and Libre. Hello.
  • Hello.
  • What's up?
  • Alright, first of all, can you tell us since when have you been playing here?
  • I've been on and off since Mystery Project, so give or take 6 years. Became more active shortly before the server wipe 4 years ago.
  • I started 5-6 months before the wipe. I didn't have time to play much back then so I really submerged to it after the wipe. That's like 5 years ago.
  • Speaking of which... what are your thoughts about what happened back in 2011?
  • I am still not sure what exactly happened. Some problems with Blizzard? All I remember was I was really upset about loosing my 25k HKs.
  • I think it's rather unfortunate. The server was booming and it had the biggest population to date (I think around 2000+ players). And it sucks that it had to go down due to internal turmoil.
  • But that didn't stop you guys from continuing to play.
  • Why would it? It was still a good server. And all my friends were here.
  • It did come back very quickly and even tho population-wise it wasn't as big, it felt like a renaissance when it comes to Staff activity and dedication.
  • Since we're on the subject of past, let's do a game. Each of you, name 3 people that had an influence on your WoW life.
  • I'll start with Throm, who brought me here. Then Diss, who always manages to bring me back down to earth. Lastly, my fellow NOPEs, for restoring my fate in humanity (we count ourselves as 1 person)
  • For me, Tenary (I transferred here with him and his guild). Also, Bystrik and Vrum who carried me through the 3v3 arena brackets back in the day.
  • All very memorable people indeed. And I can recall crossing swords with them on numerous occasions.
  • Please, Throm doesn't use swords.
  • He uses his beard as his weapon.
  • Speaking of influence. Guilds play a major part on WoW life. Which guilds played the biggest roles for you guys?
  • Surprisingly, it's not <NOPE>. It's <Archangels>. <Nope> is a result of old <Archangels> influence. The people in <Archangels> proved to me that you don't have to tryhard in PvE or PvP in order to have fun.
  • It has to be <Rigor Mortis>. It's the guild I pretty much grew up in as a player and experienced my peak of my gaming life here.
  • In GD there were many big guilds. Duck, can you name a few and tell us why they were successful?
  • There is no way I don't mention <Project Horde> from pre-wipe and <BlackTrains>. Easily the best guilds to have ever set foot on Gamer-District. Also, I need to add <Rigor Mortis> to the list. And my current guild - <Foresight>. I couldn't be more pleased.
  • If you consider Icecrown Citadel 25man farming, I guess Foresight, Kudos, etc. They claim to be successful both in-game and in their social life but I have my doubts.
  • A more difficult question. Do you recall the race for ToGC 50/50?
  • I do remember it. Thought, I couldn't really care about it due to the fact that the realm first was murdered by bug abusing, guild drama and everything else imaginable.
  • I personally don't remember. Probably because I had my graduation exams and couldn't play much.
  • Quite the controversial topic, if I do say so myself.
  • Alright, moving on down memory lane, we end up at the Lich King 25 heroic Realm First. What can you tell us about it?
  • That's a soft spot you hit there. It was between the guild I was leading and <Exodus>. In the end, <Exodus> managed to grab the Realm First, which hurt. To this day, I regret not continuing to try.
  • Of course I remember that. Cleet spams the achievement from time to time so we don't forget at all.
  • Libre, you are known by many for your PvP and your * cough* global popularity. Can you tell us what exactly made you take up the path of war?
  • Hormonal disbalance or something. I've always found PvP to be more thrilling. As for my global popularity, it's a more difficult matter. One day I was told Cody was looking for me so I joined. then I got a lot of people spamming me and I wasn't very polite. So basically that's how the hate spiral began.
  • I see. And Duck, what do you usually do here on GD. Are you a PvP Hero or PvE Raider?
  • It's a funny story because I used to be a PvP-only player back in the day when arenas were competitive and thrilling. Since PvP died down a bit I took up PvE and I can say I'm very well rounded in both masteries.
  • Would you like for PvP to come back and be competitive again? With more 5v5 arenas?
  • I never considered 2v2 or 5v5 to be competitive. Fun - definitely, but not competitive. 3v3 is where the real competition is and always has been.
  • I can't even find a partner for 2v2 because everyone hates me. What is 5v5?
  • Let me ask you about the community since that also plays a major role in a player's WoW life. Libre, what are your thoughts?
  • Oh, I am completely in love with the GD community. I love watching people argue. It taught me so much about human nature.
  • I find it stale, to be honest. The same people active every day. It's been like that for years. I don't know, maybe it's just my taste.
  • And what do you guys think of people from Molten's community who come over here to play?
  • That didn't really change much since they just went back to Molten once they rebuilt the server. Sadly, I can't use obscene language, so I can't prove my point about the Molten community.
  • I agree with Duck. Some people are just beyond redemption. Let's say: for me GD will always be better than Molten.
  • Duck, you've been here even before GD became.. well... GD. What can you tell us about the people responsible for the server - the Staff?
  • Ever since I was here, I admired Kain and Ric for their hard work and dedication, maintaining the server and polishing it. If you asked me a few years back, I'd say the Staff is the best you could possibly find on a private server. Past years, however, nothing to mention. Since nothing's been happening.
  • You guys come up with some weird ideas from time to time. I've never had problems with the Staff other than that one time I was banned for teleporting in the middle of a conversation with a GM. But, oh well, I had to go down with grace. I also never understood why all the secrecy and hiding.
  • Well, we all have our roles to play from behind the scenes. Even though things have quieted down, we are still here. Sadly, we are nearing the end of our interview but I still have some important questions to ask you. GD as a server - what do you think? Give me your thoughts as to why you choose to play here.
  • Easily, the best private server experience I've ever had. The people I've played with and stuck through the years are amazing. Staff has done their job and here we are today.
  • I've invested too much time and energy into it to just leave. And besides, the things I care about are working, my friends are here. I don't need anything else.
  • Lastly, what do you think would be a good topic for our next interview?
  • Actually, I would like to see something I've always wanted and that is an interview with Kain or with another core Staff member and get their thoughts on why they stick with the WoTLK realm and not consider opening a new progressive realm or a Cataclysm realm.
  • I think the population would split and that would damage the server. Plus, they are still fixing stuff after 4 years. If the open a Cataclysm realm, they would need to start all over again.
  • Well, unfortunately, our time is up. I thank you for your time.
  • Thank you, as well.
  • Bye bye.

Stay tuned for the next Issue.

GD Magazine

Issue #3, November 14. 2015

Fellow Gamers,

Welcome back to our third issue of the GD Magazine. Our agents managed to get a hold of a former GM and persuaded him to partake in our little interview. There were awkward questions, technical difficulties and comedic situations. Let's see how it went:

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome back to our GD Magazine! Today, we have a special guest with us. Can you introduce yourself to our readers, please?
  • Well, I am Zylva, a former manager of the Staff of Gamer-District. I believe I was part of the Staff for 2 years.
  • Thanks for agreeing to be interviewed Zylva.
  • Please, call me Kevin.
  • Alright, Kevin. Let's begin! We have a lot of questions for you tonight.
  • Great!
  • Can you tell us why you decided to join the Staff?
  • To fight against the vengefull Horde basterds that infect the trade channel. Oh, we're not talking about PvP, are we?
  • No, we're not. And our Horde readers might get offended.
  • Jokes aside, I joined the Staff because I wanted to assist the server, which was my home for the past few years. I joined the team after I made an application, which got accepted. To my surprise, one of the Staff members was a guildie.
  • And how did you feel once you were part of the Staff?
  • Well, I had a lot of fun. Problem was I needed to find a balance between being a 'white knight' and a 'normal player'. I found it hard if I should tell small abuses because my friends found them and only told them to me. Because if I shared them with the developerss, I would expose my GM identity.
  • So, it is safe to assume that the developers did not know the true identities of the GMs?
  • I can neither confirm, nor deny that.
  • Fair enough. Here on our Interviews, I like to play games with our guests. So, let's play a game, shall we?
  • Please, no SAW IX!!
  • Do not fret. No harm will come to your body, at least.
  • Ok...
  • There must have been times, where you made some silly mistakes. Please, share some of your more memorable "***-ups" with our readers!
  • Alright... Well, at one time a guild was transfering to our server. They were a progressive raiding guild and came from a Naxx server. They wanted to experiance our Ulduar raids. A Priest applied but he/she also had a Warrior that had a nearly identical name. Because the sets at the time were special they were send through the mail. I sent a Priest set to a Warrior. Also, another time, I mixed my personal Skype with my GM Skype, which also resulted in a confusing situation for me.
  • Indeed, quite the bind you got yourself into. As our readers know, GMs are, most often, also players of GD. You yourself are no exception, I presume?
  • At that time, I was an active player. Nowadays, I am not so active.
  • Is there something you miss?
  • I miss the "Tickets of the Day" quotes in the GM chat. "GM BAN [Name left out] HE IS USING SHADOWMOURN IN PVP"..
  • Moving on to a more serious question.
  • Oh dear...
  • Quite often, players have unreasonable requests from the GMs. What do you think are the GMs of GD responsible for? What exactly is their job here?
  • To assist players, however GMs should not disrupt the game experience. So, for example, I would only tell you the name of an NPC and a general location if you could not find it. I would not teleport you to it.
  • Do you have any advice for the players when contacting a GM?
  • Yes I have some advice. GMs are there to help you, they do not get paid for this. They also have daily lives so some work 8 hours a day. When creating a ticket, stay polite and explain the problem. Beeing rude has the oposite effect. Just ask yourself: Would I want to be treated rude when I help someone (for free!).
  • I hope our readers wil take this into consideration.
  • I hope so as well. Tickets with: GM FIX IT NOW OR I LEAVE! do not help :)
  • Indeed. Well, setting aside the technical questions, let's talk about Events. You, as a players, and also as a former Staff member, must have had a favorite Event. Can you tell us about it?
  • Actually, I disliked events. Mainly because they were either PvP based (I dislike PvP) or they would cause a lot of spam/trouble. I joined GD because it was retail like, so I would like it more if there were no random GM popups or special events. Perhaps making an event that does not require something special to be set up (like extra objects etc) but more of a forum event. Like, making a raid challenge, where people need to beat some sort of achivement within a certain time.
  • Well then, what do you think about the Fashion Show we held last month, with your's truly as host?
  • What show?
  • <Reluctance grabs his chest in agony and collapses.>
  • Ah, so.. this interview is done then? I can go home?
  • Not so fast! I can still.. go on.
  • Ahaha, well tell me, when was the event and what exactly happened?
  • Well, last month I decided to organize a small event, where players would show us their favorite costume (gear combination) and impress us. No PvP involved, no objects added. Just players and their gear.
  • It sounds fun. Must have been... Flashy... with all those sets. *ba dum tss*
  • Hehe, funny guy?
  • Just joking. Anyways, I was probably away when it happened.
  • No worries. But regardless, would you like to see some similar events in the future?
  • I would prefer to see some events that engage for a longer period of time. Not limited to x amount of hours on y day. So, players can do it in their own time and perhaps proove it with a video / logs.
  • I see. That is indeed not a bad idea. We, the Staff, are always open to suggestions.
  • Great!
  • Sadly, we are nearing the end of our time but I still have some important questions for you!
  • Ask away!
  • A lot of readers requested a GM or a former GM to be interviewed and we, I believe, accomplished that tonight. But they also want to hear from the Owner of the Server - Kain himself. Do you think he will agree to be interviewed?
  • I don't know, Kain does participate in some events.... however if it was like this asking questions, he would probably forget you are interviewing him after he alt tabs.
  • Oh no! Then I need to think of a way to keep his attention on the interview! And about this Magazine - we are keeping it (for now) as a platform for interviews only. But is there anything else you would like for us to do?
  • Perhaps you can promote some guides people have made?
  • Lastly, what do you think of the Interviews - are they a good idea or just a waste of time?
  • What do you think? I think they are great if you ask the right questions. The same questions every time get boring. Perhaps you can get some dev or bigshot of the current team to give a general direction the server wants to go.
  • We will... see what we can do. *wonders* Well, thank you for your time tonight, Kevin. And I hope to see you ingame in the future!
  • No problem! Take care!

Stay tuned for the next Issue.

GD Magazine

Issue #4, December 25. 2015

Fellow Gamers,

Welcome to our 4th edition of GD Magazine. A lot of players have been requesting this and finally it’s happening. An interview with the owner of GD himself – Kain. Let’s see what happens:

  • Greetings, fellow readers. I am your humble host Reluctance. Today I am ecstatic as I have the honor of interviewing for the first time ever the owner of GD. Hello Kain.
  • Hello everyone!
  • So, let’s start off with a little bit of history. I know players can read about this on our FB page but please tell us about how you got involved with GD and how you subsequently took up management of this server.
  • It's a long story, I'll try to be as short as possible. GD was born from the ashes of Mystery Project, one of the first WotLK servers hosted by Mystery. He quickly abandoned it, leaving it in the hands of his friend Durden, which is also a friend of mine, who happened to know the bases of developing. Durden, tired of working for free, decided to open his own server with me as a web-master, and we chose the name it has now. After some unfortunate event (DdoS and DNS issues), he gave up working on it, so I took it up.
  • Can you name a few of the people who contributed to GD in the past and your thoughts on them?
  • Let's go chronologically: Durden is still a friend of mine, and the co-founder of GD. He's a good fella, we spent a lot of time together working, studying and our free time either. Kris (Alluring) and Paul (Ethos) helped me a lot when the server had a wipe. They pushed me to do everything I could, by doing everything they could. Ric, fantastic player who was permabanned for hacking, became one of the most intelligent people I met. Most of the backbone we still have, it's due to his study and code. Finally, all the staff (GMs and devs) we have right now is a good group, with its highs and lows, it's balanced and we collaborate (I hope) peacefully.
  • A big landmark in GD’s history is probably the 2011 wipe. I, as a fellow player, was devastated when it happened and even took a 6 month break before coming back. Please, tell us what it was like for you and how did you manage with that crisis.
  • I still remember the climax to the wipe, I precisely remember the days, the nights and where I was when working on the server trying to mitigate the DDoS. I lost a university exam session (6 months) because of it, as I didn't have time to lead 2 lives at once. The fear that it would all have been for nothing and the rage against who caused it is what I remember most. If I were to go back and decide whether to do it all over again, with hindsight, I'd do it again. As I said, I had the direct help of two precious friends who helped me at the right time by giving me the human help (getting new staff, helping players in the process, listen to my groanings...). I'm glad we rose again, even if we aren't at the same point we were before, I can say I'm happier now than how I was back then.

  • What are some other memorable events that have happened in the past – positive or negative?
  • Few knows that the wipe was actually caused by a DDoS that was caused by a permaban. I still remember the guy's name, as we were speaking on skype while he was keeping down GD. I learned a lot from those moments. Other memorable events are the DMCA letters given by the friendliest and nicest gaming house, which tried (and managed) to scare the hell out of me. On the other hand, I remember every time a player thanked me (or the staff) for the server.
  • Alright, fast-forward to present day GD. What are your thoughts on GD being one of the best WoTLK private servers out there (script wise and community wise)?
  • As I said, I can't take the credits for what Ric did to the code structure that GD has now. From the beginning, I aimed at quality rather than anything else, it's in the motto and it's still my target. By the looks of it, this vision was the correct one.
  • A topic that has been heavily discussed by both the Staff and the Community – the Cataclysm realm. We know there was definitely work being done on that realm but it was never implemented. Can you shine some light on this so that maybe our players can once and for all put this case to rest?
  • I'll appeal to my Italian straightforwardness to say it's never going to happen. It was an idea of Ric and I never totally agreed on it. I remember telling him that with less than 1000 people online it was a suicide, but then we reached 1000 people so the project started. We didn't have good developers as we have now, so it couldn't go on and in the end even Ric left, so even the idea of it ceased to exist.
  • Do you have any plans for GD to upgrade to a different expansion in the future? Or any other possible innovations?
  • Not for the time being, no. A dodgykebaab video tho planted a seed of doubt about a possible expansion of GD...
  • With the heavy questions out of the way, let’s lighten-up things with a little game. In your WoW life there must have definitely been people who have influenced/helped you in one way or another. Can you name 3 such people and tell us why?
  • I'm going to sound gay, but Ric is my first choice. One of the most stubborn and smart people I met in my life.Cal, solar and friendly. Always helpful and nice even in the darker moments.Tallulah, even more irish than the actual islanders.
  • Aside from you, the many previous (and current) members of the Staff have helped shape GD into what it is today. What are your thoughts on the previous Staff members and current ones (if any)?
  • There have been several staff groups during GD history. In the past, there used to be a meeting every week to know progresses / ideas of everyone. This habit died with that group, to a disorganized couple of years. Now we have a strong group, thanks to Telegram I can keep up with it even at work and everyone can be alerted pretty much instantly of what's going on. Our actual GM manager is a bit slacking at the moment *cough cough* but I'm sure it's temporary and he will get his whip back as soon as he can.
  • To be honest, this has been a much anticipated interview so there are many questions I (and the readers) would like to ask you but we must fit this in our tight timetable. With that being said, there are still some answers we would like for you to give us.
  • That's not an issue, I'm proud of GD and I like to talk about it as if it was my own son.
  • What are your thoughts on the various events that the Staff puts together? Do you think it’s a good idea for the GMs to be actively involved with the community?
  • Absolutely. We used to have a couple of GMs dedicated to events only, but players scared them away. It's not easy to cope with unhappy people, and there will always be unsatisfied players. In my opinion, the more interaction there is between staff and players, the better. Given my directness and way to criticize, this might not be totally true for me, but you got what I mean.
  • And what do you think about our GD Magazine? Is it useful as a source of information?
  • It's awesome, I told you I loved the idea since the beginning, and I hope you'll continue with it. By the views in the forum, I think the forum users agree with me. Maybe we should remind a bit more often to people in game that something like this exists.
  • What would you like to see in the next issue? A special guest interviewed or maybe something else?
  • I would like to know the opinion of some PvPers of who we should improve our current situation, so maybe an interview to the winning teams of the last season could be interesting.
  • Well, sadly, our time is up. Nevertheless, I had a great time and I believe the players will also enjoy reading our little interview. Thank you for your time.
  • Thank you my friend for the opportunity and your patience.

GD Magazine

Issue #5, January 31. 2016

Fellow Gamers,

Did you think we gave up? No way! Here's our 5th interview in our GD Magazine. We hope you enjoy it:

Greetings dear players and welcome to the 5th edition of GD’s Magazine. By now you might be thinking “Hey, didn’t they ran out of ideas already?”. Well, yes and no. If you have any suggestions about a future interview, feel free to write to us.
With that being said, today I’ve been joined by a Senior GM from the current Staff – Bafry. Hello.

Hey!

Well, let’s get started. Please, tell our readers why you joined the Staff in the first place.
Well at first I actually wanted to be a forum moderator but I quickly changed my mind.I applied for a Game Master for more or less the same reason as everyone else – to help the community.

Our reader may not know but each senior member of the Staff has a certain field of expertise. What is yours?
Everything? Kappa. I do tickets in-game but my specialty are the transfers from other servers.
In your time here as a GM, what did you find most challenging?
Meeting player’s expectations is the most challenging thing I’ve had to deal with. Players can’t and don’t know what happens “behind the scenes” so it’s difficult for them to understand our point of view.

I’ll put myself in the shoes of a job interviewer and ask you a clichéd question: What do you think are your strengths and weaknesses?
I have done my share of interviews in my life and I still can’t answer this question to my best knowledge. I am extremely patient so I guess that counts as a strength. As far as weaknesses go, I have a hard time disconnecting from technology (phone, tablet) but I am looking forward to changing that.

Moving on from that topic, let’s talk a bit about GD. What do you think of our server – both from a Staff member and a player’s perspectives?
I believe our server is one of the best out there and this does not change depending on which account I am logged on. :>

Are there any fields that need improvement?
I would not use the word improvement, I would say “There are things that can be done a little bit better”. For myself I have set this goal: Do my best to make sure me and the other Game Masters provide the players with the best service possible.

And your thoughts on our wonderful community?
It indeed is wonderful. And if anyone says the opposite they have not been a part of it for long enough.

By the way, are you a PvE or a PvP type?
If I had to choose I would go with PvP but PvE is not that bad either.  I just never read all of the super boring guides about each and every boss. No one could deal with this so I don’t get flooded with invitations for raids.

3v3. A topic frequently discussed both in-game and on the forums. How do you think we can better encourage players to partake in this bracket? Also, the 5v5 bracket (we had that, too?!)?
I am just going to say this: at the end it’s up to the players to join the queue or not. Maybe we should consider putting over 9000 DP as a reward, see what happens then… Kappa

Do you have any interesting and fun PvP events planned for the future? No need to spoil us, just give us some hints.
I strongly advise players to suggest anything they have on their mind. It might be a super plain idea which we can work together on and create something exciting and fun. Help us help you!

Well, sadly, we’re running short on time but there are still a couple of questions I want to ask you.
Of course.

Is there anything you would personally like to share with the readers?
Please be as detailed as you can be when writing your ticket. It helps us a lot to give you the best answer.

What kind of future interview would you like to see happen?
I would enjoy to read an interview where you talk with a player. Maybe someone that has been with us for years, months or just a few days. The difference between their point of views would be an interesting thing to see.

And lastly, and this is a little spoiler: Would you like to take part in a roundtable discussion-kind of interview?
That would be fun, definitely looking forward to something like this.

Well, that’s it from us. I’m happy we could make this interview happen. Thank you for coming today!
Thanks for reading! Bye!

Well, 'till next time!

GD Magazine

Issue #6, May 12. 2016

Fellow Gamers,

Welcome back to our official GD Magazine. This time around, we got a special request for an interview with 2 officers from a famous guild on the server. A very professional interview, with an insight into the success of our guests. Well, without unnecessary rambling, let's see how it went.

(Mayev, Qgzw)

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to our 6th issue of GD Magazine. A famous guild on the server, with a staggering 100 Lich King 25 heroic kills, requested our attention and we delivered. I welcome the officer of <Foresight> Mayev and Qgzw. Welcome, gentlemen.

Hello, I am Mayev.

Greetings from me, too.

First off, I want to ask, who is the leader of the guild?

Technically Qgzw holds that position but we both have equal weight when it comes to decision-making.

We both have similar responsibilities and work together.

We do not take action unless we both agree on it.

Exactly!

I see. You two are very well synced. I respect that. Well then, Qgzw, could you please share a bit of the guild's history with us?

We transferred to the server in the beginning of 2013, when we merged with Mayev's guild and formed the now-called <Foresight>.

Well, the guild was not mine exactly. I was playing on another server, where I first met Qgzw, although we were in different guilds. I've actually been playing here since 2010, just want to make this clear. That guild was, however, mostly for fun and hanging out with friends. After that server was shut down, I move here and Qgzw went to a different server. It would be a long time before we were reunited.

And how did you find out about Gamer-District in the first place?

For me, it was Mayev. He told me about this server with great scripts. I tried it out and was pretty impressed.

It took a little persuasion but through a common friend, I managed to bring Qgzw here. So he moved a part of his guild here.

Well, thank you for the praise. Moving on to another question. How did you feel when you first killed Lich King 25 heroic?

it was quite ecstatic. I could feel my heart pounding and the adrenaline rushing. We were trying for weeks, dealing with disconnects, lags, setups, etc.

Our ICC 25hc progression was difficult at that time. Mostly because there were other guild doing 11/12 bosses and we would struggle getting consistent players.

How long did it take before the Lich King went down?

Let me see, we cleared Professor Putricide on the 15. September, 2013 and then Lich King on 17. November... so roughly 6 weeks, I guess.

From my point of view, Lich King progression wasn't as difficult or nerve-wrecking as Lady 25 heroic.

That is an impressively fast progression. But what's even more impressive is that you stuck with it and now, 100 kills later, we're having this discussion. Tell me, why did you decide to continue, even after all those kills?

After a while, it became like hanging out with friends. Like going out for drinks or seeing movies. i enjoyed the company of my guild mates, the jokes we made, the occasional annoyances and the chit-chat that happens.

A general rule we believe in is, that if you want something, you have to work for it. So progressing was, in reality, investing a lot of time, effort, motivating the players and coordinating the groups. As for keeping it going, it's pretty much as Mayev said.

If you've been following our magazine, you know I like to play games with my guests. So lets play one now. I would like to ask each of you to name 3 people who have had an impact on the guild, be that positive or negative.

This is hard. I don't think it's about 2-3 people that made an impact but the whole guild, since we worked as a team together and everyone had their various roles to play.

Indeed, it is hard to single-out people who had an impact, since we would always end up forgetting to mention someone. The whole team had an equal impact. That's not to say there weren't any special mates...

Good job! You did not fall for my trap.... damn rogues.

[Disarm Trap]

Going back to the subject. As a guild, surely you must have had rivals. Can you name some guilds which you rivaled with, competed with or chased after?

Well, we personally never competed with any guilds, directly or indirectly. Many of the guilds do come into conversation in various topics, but it was always more of a casual talk.

My thoughts running this guild were to always focus on our own progression and not care about other guilds since that would only end up distracting us.

Like Qgzw said, we mostly had set ourselves the goals (Kill Professor, then kill Lich King) and we used to aim for those achievements.

That is not to say we weren't aware of what was going on with the server but we just preferred not to get involved too much.

We generally kept a low-profile even on the GD Forum.

Well, sadly, our time is drawing closer to the end. However, I still have a few more questions that I would like to ask you.

Sure, go ahead.

Our readers may not know this, but with the 100th Lich King kill, your guild will be taking a more passive side and turn it into a more social guild than raiding one. What are your plans for the future of the guild? Do you plan to come back to active raiding in the future or is this the end?

Well, we're just going to raid more casually now, instead of the strict schedule we had until now.

We don't plan to disband the guild or anything like that. But since neither of us has sufficient time to run the guild at the moment, it will be up to the members to take a more active role, if they wish to organize raids.

Basically, we don't want to force people to come to raids, since they are busy and so are we.

And what about the people that still show interest in the guild and want to apply?

We do get 2-3 applications a week but we're not as rigorous in processing them as before. If the applicants are good, we accept them and try to fit them in our raid slot.

If any of our guildies want to take a more active role and recruit new members, they can do so. I wouldn't mind. But I do not like to make promises I can't keep.

Also, we only raid on Fridays now so I don't want to give people false hopes.

Since this is a forum for expressing one's thoughts, is there anything else you'd like to share with us?

Well, we would like to thank the developers for their hard work in scripting the server. Also the Staff, for running the server all these years. And lastly, I want to thank all my guild members, current and former.

You guys did a good job scripting all the instances. I know it's tough to be a volunteer and do this kind of work without getting paid, since I also work in a somewhat related field and know what it's like to not get the credit you deserve. So I applaud that.

Lastly, who would you like to see interviewed next? Or perhaps, do you have an idea for a cool new issue?

Hmm, a tough question. Leading from the above answer, maybe we could get a few developers? Their experience, the struggles?

That's a good idea. I would like to see it happen.

We will try to get a hold of someone.

That would be great.

Well, unfortunately, our time is up. But thank you for reaching out and suggesting this interview.

No, thank you for the interview.

And to the readers - stick with us for the next issue!

Well, 'till next time!
